Donut Withdrawal = Cupcake Heaven

Since giving up donuts for Lent, I've found myself craving sweets like a Pavlovian dog hearing a constantly ringing bell. I go to bed thinking of sweets, I sleep and dream of sweets, and I wake up craving them. There has been only one thing that has satisfied my sweet addiction. And that is a red velvet cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes.

So luscious, so sweet, so decadent, so creamy, so drool slobbering, fever inducing good. If I had to choose between a red velvet cupcake and a date with Clive Owen, I'd slide tackle Clive aside in my rush to cram the cream cheese icing into my mouth. I'd run over Hugh Jackman, shove Brad Pitt, and stampede over Johnny Depp. Errrrr, wait a second. Rewind. Who in their right mind would choose a cupcake over Johnny Depp? Thinking. Thinking. Thinking. Sorry Johnny. I gotta go with the cupcake.

FYI, if you are in the DC area and you are near a Georgetown Cupcakes, then follow them on twitter here because everyday they have a secret cupcake flavor. They make about a 100 of them. Once they tweet the secret flavor, rush over to your local Georgetown Cupcake, tell them the secret favor and you get that cupcake for free, no purchase necessary. But why would you go to a Georgetown Cupcake and not buy a red velvet? That's kind of like sacrilege you know.

For real, you get it free? That rules. If it were donuts, I would have to move to Georgetown.

Those look SO delish!
My 10 yr old son gave up cookies for Lent. Then the girl scout cookies came in, and today the neighbor asked if the kids wanted to come and bake cookies. Poor guy! Last year he gave up ALL sweets and made it!
Me? I'm a Lutheran who goes to Catholic church with my Catholic hubby and kids. So that is my excuse not to give up anything. I'm bad!!!

I used to give up stuff like this for lent. Now I give up things I don't want anyway. Does that make me a bad person?

Oh, I soooo know what you're talking about. I've gone on diets - I know you can't tell- but I have, anyway, I have dreams I cheated on my diet and wake up wondering if it was real or not - 'cuz it seemed soooo real. Now, that's got Yves St. Laurent beat 'cuz that's true obsession.

Last Friday at Adam's school the moms were serving the dads donuts. A lot of parents were saying they gave up donuts or sweets entirely for lent, so the priest told everyone they were exempt for the day!

I wouldn't let anyone but you lecture me on the sacrilegious :)

AND HERE I WAS DOING SO WELL AVOIDING MY POST-LUNCH CHOCOLATE CRAVINGS. THEN YOU SHOWED ME THOSE DAMNED PICTURES.

*shakes sticky-fingered fist*

This is all your fault.

To each their own, of course, but I'm just so glad I'm an atheist.

I love sweets, Ellen. I bake too. I baked 48 red velvet cupcakes and made cream cheese icing, all from scratch. I had lots of requests for my baked goods. ;-) Cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, etc. :-D

Do they make an all icing one?

My daughter gave up rootbeer. wouldn't you know it, she was at a sleepover last weekend where they were serving rootbeer floats - her favorite. She abstained, but she wasn't happy about it.

She did say this year was better than last year - she gave up CHOCOLATE - that was a miserable Lent for everyone.

I don't know why I never went there when I lived over that way. There are zero bakeries over here on the Eastern Shore (aside from Panera, which doesn't count in my book). I'm sad for myself.

Would you go get me a cupcake while I dust off Johnny Depp?

OH. MY. GOSH. I've never been a big cupcake fan. But I think you just changed me.

And, I'm with you on red velvet. Yum!
